Black Hills Real Estate Magazine is a service of Gideon Oakes, Broker Associate with The Real Estate Group, Inc.
Gideon graduated magna cum laude from Utah State University in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Print Journalism. While attending classes, he worked several part-time jobs in the newspaper industry, leading to a love of writing and storytelling.
Prior to college, Gideon graduated from Rapid City Stevens High School where he was voted “Most Likely to be the Next Bill Gates”, in part because he owned and operated an internet business, which he sold prior to leaving for college.
After school, he returned to the Black Hills and started Teddy’s Deli, a seasonal sandwich shop in Keystone, which he operated for nine years before jumping into real estate.
In 2013, Gideon married his best friend and junior prom date, Mary. The couple has one daughter and live near Keystone on a section of his great-grandparents’ homestead. His family legacy has ingrained in him a culture of friendly customer service and a deep-rooted love for the Black Hills.
In addition to Gideon’s background in business, marketing and communication, his local heritage plays a key role in his ability to help his clients buy and sell Black Hills property.
Gideon’s family came to the Hills in 1918 and were early pioneers of the area. His great-grandfather, C.C. Gideon, built and operated the State Game Lodge with his family in what would come to be Custer State Park. He also laid out Iron Mountain Road with Senator Peter Norbeck and designed the famous Pigtail Bridges.
